Renewing seal for right flange shaft Capacity, → Chapter Cleaning norms when working in the gearbox → Chapter. Renew gear oil → Chapter. Left → Chapter. Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	pressure tool -3305-

t	Tensioning tool -T10038-

t	Socket and key -T10107 A-

t	Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor.

t	Torque wrench -V.A.G 1332-, see equivalent → Anchor.

Detaching   Note t  Do not remove both drive shafts from the gearbox together. One drive shaft must remain in place so the opposite wheel can be held in position when removing or installing the bolts into the stub shafts. t  Do not loosen both securing bolts in left and right flange shafts at the same time. If the differential bevel gears turn it is very difficult to reinstall the bolts.

t  Remove drive shaft from gearbox and lay to side. Drive shaft is fixed onto suspension strut with tensioning belt -T10038-. t  You do not need to remove the centre bolt of the drive shaft. –  Remove noise insulation → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.50.

–  Remove drive shaft deflector cap from engine -arrows-, if fitted. Unbolt drive shaft from gearbox. –  Tie-up drive shaft as high as possible. Do not damage paint on drive shaft.

–  Remove right flange shaft of gearbox. Bolt has a 6 mm hexagon socket. Bolt can also be removed and installed with socket -V.A.G 1669-. Tightening torque: 30 Nm –  Pull out flange shaft. –  Pry seal out using assembly lever.

–  Half-fill space between sealing lip and dust lip of new seal with sealing grease.

–  Drive in new seal onto stop (take care to keep seal straight). –  Fit flanged shaft. –  Tighten new countersunk bolt to 30 Nm. When doing this, press flange shaft against gearbox so that bolt engages in thread. –  Fit drive shaft back on → Rep. gr.40. –  Renew gear oil → Chapter. –  Install noise insulation and tighten, specified torque → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.50.
