Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Torque wrench kit -SAT 8010-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Tappet -T10088 -, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Spanner -T20203 -, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Extractor -T20143 -, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Tray -T20173 -, see equivalent → Anchor

Removal:
The seals may be changed while the gear box is mounted.

–  Remove left-hand articulated shaft: → Running gear, shafts, steering; Rep. gr.40.
–  Fit tray -T20173- beneath gearbox.
   
–  Unscrew the attachment bolt from the left flange shaft using the wrench -T20203 -. To do this, loosen two bolts on the clamp and use a lever to immobilize the shaft.
–  The bolt must be replaced.
–  Remove flanged shaft together with compression spring.

–  Remove sealing ring with pliers -T20143/2 -.
Installation
Installation is carried out in reverse order. The following must be taken into account:
–  Lightly lubricate outer edge of new seal.
  E39-10005
–  Fit new seal as far as it will go using tappet -T10088 -.
  E39-0221
–  Fill space between sealing lip and dustcap -arrow-, halfway, with sealing grease → Spare parts catalogue.
–  Insert the flanged shaft pushing against the spring and fix with a new bolt.
–  Mount left-hand articulated shaft: → Running gear, shafts, steering; Rep. gr.40.
Check the gear oil → Chapter
