Servicing shaft bevel gear bearings > < Dismantling and assembling final drive

Automatic gearbox 099 four-wheel drive
Replacing flange shaft or drive flange oil seal (final drive installed)
Renewing right-hand flange shaft oil seal
 
V39-1949

Removing

  • ‒ Separate drive shaft flanges and tie-up.
  • ‒ → Remove flange shaft, to do this screw 2 bolts -A- in alternatively.
  •     A -    Bolts M 10 x 100
  • ‒ Lever seal out.
 
N39-0627
  • ‒ → Drive new oil seal onto stop.
  • ‒ Fill space between sealing lip and dust lip with multi-purpose grease.
 
V34-2005
  • ‒ Clamp flange shaft in vice using vice clamps.
  • ‒ → Press circlip out of flange shaft groove using new circlip -A-.
  • ‒ Drive in flange shaft using a synthetic head hammer.
  • ‒ Renew flange shaft/drive shaft seal (pull off protective foil and glue seal into joint).
  • ‒ Reconnect drive shaft flanges.
  • ‒ Checking gearbox oil in rear final drive
    .

Tightening torques

Drive shaft to flange shaft

70 Nm

Oil filler plug to rear axle housing

25 Nm
