Removing and installing front seat backrest cover and padding
Removing and installing front seat backrest cover and padding
  Note
t  Removal and installation is described for the left seat. Apply the same instructions for removal and installation of right seat components as appropriate.
t  Removal and installation are examples and apply to all equipment lines.
Removing
–  Attach seat repair stand -VAS 6136- to engine and gearbox support -VAS 6095-.
–  Remove front seat → Chapter.
–  Fasten seat on seat repair stand -VAS 6136-.
–  Removing front belt buckle → Chapter.
–  Remove trim on tunnel side → Chapter.
Front passenger seat without height adjustment
–  Remove backrest adjuster wheel → Chapter.
–  Remove trim on sill side → Chapter.
Front passenger seat with through-loading aperture
–  Remove trim on sill side → Chapter.
Front seats with manual height adjustment
–  Remove backrest adjuster wheel → Chapter.
–  Remove trim on sill side → Chapter.
Driver seat, electrically adjustable
–  Remove trim on sill side → Chapter.
–  Disconnect the two backrest drive wiring harnesses from seat frame on lower side. Detach wiring harnesses from seat frame.
All seats
–  Cut the cable ties of braided hose.
–  Pull wiring harness of side airbag through braided hose. If necessary, detach backrest heating connector.
–  Remove backrest → Chapter.
–  Mount backrest on seat repair stand -VAS 6136-.
–  Remove lumbar adjustment lever if there is one → Chapter.
–  Remove backrest folding table → Chapter.
–  Press release button and pull head restraint out of backrest.
   
–  Detach section -1- from the mounting -2-.
  N74-10199
–  Roll cover upwards.
–  In vehicles with seat heating, thread wiring harness -1- through opening in padding.
–  Cut through the 4 padding clips -arrows-.
–  Roll cover further upwards and cut through the next two padding clips.
  N74-10200
–  Remove clip -1- on right and left on rear of backrest using release tool -T10236-.
–  Release right and left retaining lug -2- from backrest frame.
  N74-10201
–  Roll cover further upwards and use a small screwdriver to unclip the section of the cover from the mountings in the padding -arrows-.
–  Roll cover further upwards and detach remaining fastenings from cover of padding.
–  Pull cover off backrest frame, removing it over the two head restraint guides.
  N74-10202
–  Pull padding -1- over the two head restraint guides and detach from backrest frame -2-.
Installing
–  Install in reverse order of removal.
Front passenger seat with through-loading aperture
t  When installing padding on backrest frame, be careful with the cable duct cover.
t  Retaining lug on sill side may only be closed once seat heating wiring harness has been routed.
