Removing and installing front seat cushion cover and padding
Removing and installing front seat cushion cover and padding
  Note
Removal and installation is described for the left seat. Apply the same instructions for removal and installation of right seat components as appropriate.
  WARNING
If the front passenger seat cushion padding is renewed, the seat occupied sensor, front passenger side -G128- must also always be renewed → Chapter.
Removing
–  Attach seat repair stand -VAS 6136- to engine and gearbox support -VAS 6095-.
–  Remove front seat → Chapter.
–  Fasten seat on seat repair stand -VAS 6136-.
–  Remove front belt buckle → Chapter.
–  Remove trim on tunnel side → Chapter.
–  Remove drawer mounting if there is one → Chapter.
Front passenger seat without height adjustment
–  Remove backrest adjuster wheel → Chapter.
–  Remove trim on sill side → Chapter.
Front passenger seat with through-loading aperture
–  Remove trim on sill side → Chapter.
–  Remove trim bracket on sill side → Chapter.
Front seats with manual height adjustment
–  Remove backrest adjuster wheel → Chapter.
–  Remove trim on sill side → Chapter.
–  Remove trim bracket on sill side → Chapter.
Driver seat, electrically adjustable
–  Remove trim on sill side → Chapter.
–  Remove trim bracket on sill side → Chapter.
–  Disconnect the two backrest drive wiring harnesses from seat frame on lower side. Detach wiring harnesses from seat frame.
All seats
–  Cut through cable ties of braided hose and pull wiring harness of side airbag through hose.
  Note
In vehicles fitted with a through-loading aperture, it is sufficient to fold the backrest forwards. It is not necessary to remove the backrest.
–  Remove backrest → Chapter.
   
–  Detach sections -1-, -2-, -3- and -4- from mountings in seat frame.
–  Remove cover and padding from seat frame.

   
–  Roll up cover on outer sides working around perimeter.
–  Using a small screwdriver, unclip cover sections -1- from mountings -2- in padding.
  Note
In the rear area of the seat, the cover is attached to the padding with padding clips. Cut padding clips with oblique cutting pliers.
–  Detach all fastenings attaching cover to padding as described.
–  Take cover -3- off padding -4-.

Installing
–  Install in reverse order of removal.
  Note
When attaching the cover to the padding, use the upholstery clip pliers -V.A.G 1634- at the appropriate places.
