Removing and installing backrest cover and padding
Removing
–  Attach seat repair stand -VAS 6136- to engine and gearbox support -VAS 6095-.
–  Remove front seat trim → Chapter.
–  Remove seat → Chapter.
–  Fasten seat on seat repair stand -VAS 6136-.
–  Remove side trims → Chapter.
–  Remove footwell trims → Chapter.
–  Remove trim of backrest operating lever if there is one → Chapter.
–  Remove backrest cover → Chapter.
–  Detach wiring harness of side airbag from seat frame.
   
–  Detach sections -3- and -4- from backrest frame.
–  Detach section -6- of backrest cover -1- from all round the backrest frame.
–  Detach section -5- of side airbag from backrest frame.

   
–  Thread the wiring harness -3- through the backrest cover -1-.
–  Remove backrest cover together with padding -2- from seat frame.
–  Roll backrest cover off the padding until the padding channels are accessible.
–  In the padding channel, pinch the upholstery clips -arrows- together and release the cover from the padding.

Installing
–  Installation is basically carried out in the reverse sequence; note the following when doing this:
t  First, fit the hard backrest cover and then attach the section of the backrest cover to the backrest frame.
  Note
Use padding clip pliers -V.A.G 1634- to fit padding clips.
