Safety precautions for crash sensors (pressure sensors) for side airbag (front)
Safety precautions for crash sensors (pressure sensors) for side airbag (front)
The crash sensors for side airbags are very sensitive to pressure changes and must therefore be handled with great care. Please note the following:
t  Always pay attention to the correct installation position: Only install at the envisaged fitting location in the door.
t  Protect crash sensors against impact: Crash sensors which have been dropped are not to be re-used. Remove the crash sensor when carrying out work on the door bodywork.
t  The crash sensor is matched to the volume of air inside the door: Operation of the crash sensor will be impaired by deformation of the door which reduces the air space in the door.
t  Avoid major contamination of the crash sensor: Do not use compressed air in the vicinity of the crash sensor. Protect the crash sensor against filings or bore chips (example, during retrofitting of door speakers). Do not use cavity sealants or spray oil in the vicinity of the crash sensor.
t  Protection against high/low temperatures: Avoid exposure to heat, for instance when painting or performing other bodywork operations. The crash sensors must not be exposed to temperatures below -40°C (for example in non-air-conditioned aircraft holds).
t  The crash sensor must be protected against moisture, both during storage and when installing.
Ensure that the door is properly sealed when it is installed; otherwise the crash sensor may not function correctly. Please note the following:
t  All components (e.g. cover, speakers, door trim) must be correctly fitted.
t  The retaining clips for the door trim provide a seal for the system. If necessary, renew retaining clips.
