Removing
Removing
–  Switch off ignition.
–  Disconnect battery earth strap from battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27
–  Remove front passenger airbag unit → Chapter.
–  Remove centre console → Chapter.
   
–  Unclip side battery cover -2- and pull out.
–  Unscrew three bolts -arrows-.
–  Pull out air guide trim -1-.

–  Open fastener -1- and pull out pollen filter -2- in -direction of arrow-.

–  Loosen hexagon nut -1-.
–  Unscrew hexagon nuts -2- and -3-.
–  Pull off pollen filter box forwards as far as possible and slide outwards in -direction of arrow-.

–  Unscrew hexagon head bolt -1- (behind pollen filter box).
–  Unscrew hexagon head bolt -2-.
  Note
If necessary, perforation of soundproofing mat on bulkhead in area of hexagon head bolt -2- must be removed.

–  Open storage compartment on front passenger side -1-.

–  Pull storage compartment on front passenger side upwards as far as possible until hinge pins -1- and -2- are unhooked.
–  Take storage compartment on front passenger side parallel out of cover flap -3- and remove from dash panel.

–  Unscrew four cross-head screws and two hexagon head bolts -arrows-.
–  Remove front passenger airbag retainer -1-.

–  Pull off door seal -1- in area of dash panel.
–  Lever out spreader pin from clip -2-.
–  Pull clip -2- out of hole.

–  Fold out cover flap -1- and unclip.
–  Remove cross-head screws -arrows-.
–  Remove cover on front passenger side -2- and pull off connectors (for footwell light and storage compartment lamp on front passenger side).

–  Remove cross-head screws -arrows-.

–  Remove cross-head screws -arrows-.
–  Remove cover -1- (beneath dash panel).

–  Insert both release release tools -V/160- in front of radio.
–  Push radio release tools -V/160- in -direction of arrow- and pull radio out of dash panel.
–  Pull off connectors.

–  Push in tray -1- slightly at top and bottom -arrows- and pull out.
–  Unclip trim for fresh air and heater regulator -2-.
–  On vehicles with Climatronic, reach into radio insert and pull out Climatronic control panel.

–  Remove cross-head screws -arrows-.
–  Unclip trim -1-.
–  Pull connector off cigarette lighter -2-.

–  Remove cross-head screws -arrows-.
–  Unclip fresh air and heater regulator -1- and push in towards rear.
–  Remove switch trim -2- and pull off connectors from switches.

–  Remove cross-head screw -arrow-.

–  Unclip cover for relay plate -1- and pull out -arrow-.

–  Remove two bolts -arrows-.
–  Take off upper steering column switch trim -1-.

–  Remove screws -arrows-.
–  Unclip lower part of trim for steering column switch -1- and remove.
–  Pull out lower cover for relay plate -2-.
–  Remove steering wheel → Chapter.

–  Remove cross-head screws -arrows-.
–  Pull off door seal -3- in area of dash panel.
–  Lever out spreader pin from clip -2-.
–  Pull clip -2- out of hole.
–  Unclip cover on driver side -1- along upper edge from dash panel, pull off connector for footwell light and remove cover.
–  Unclip trim -4-.

–  Unscrew cross-head screws (left and right next to steering column) -arrows-.

–  Remove screw -arrow- and pull steering column switch -1- off steering column.

–  Remove cross-head screws -arrows-.
–  Pull out trim for dash panel insert.

–  Remove cross-head screws -arrows-.
–  Remove clip -1-.
  Note
If clip is not removed, glass of dash panel insert will be scratched!

–  Take dash panel insert -1- out of retainer and pull off connectors -arrows- from rear.

–  Remove cross-head screws -arrows-.

–  Carefully lever out centre vents -1- starting from bottom.

–  Remove cross-head screw -arrow-.

–  Lever out trim -1- upwards on left and right of dash panel with clip -2- and clips -3-.
  Note
To avoid surface damage, remove A-pillar trim → Chapter or protect by masking off with adhesive tape.
–  Pull out dash panel approx. 10 cm.

–  Separate connectors of loudspeakers -1- (on left and right-hand side).
–  Pull off connectors from light switch -2-.
–  If necessary, pull off connectors from sunlight intensity sensor (Climatronic) and loosen supply line from bottom of dash panel.
–  Lift out dash panel.
