Special tools, testers, measuring instruments and auxiliary items required

  • ◆ Hand multimeter V.A.G 1526
  • ◆ Adapter set V.A.G 1594

Test prerequisites:

  • ● Battery voltage at least 11.5 V
  • ● Ignition switched off
  • ● Diesel direct injection system control unit (J248) OK.
  • ● Glow plug strip fuse (S125) OK.

Test sequence

  • ‒ → Pull connector off coolant temperature sender -1-.

Note:

Pulling the connector off sender, simulates engine condition "cold" and when switching the ignition on the relevant glow period is carried out.

  • ‒ Pull glow plug connector off glow plug.
  • ‒ Connect multimeter to measure voltage between a glow plug connector and vehicle earth.
  • ‒ Switch on ignition for approx. 20 seconds
        approx. battery voltage
    must be displayed.
  • ‒ If no voltage is present:

=> Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations binder
