Operation and function of displays and control buttons on Climatronic control unitJ255

Operation and function of displays and control buttons on Climatronic control unit -J255-
1 - Dash panel temperature sensor -G56-
2 - Windscreen defroster button (also switches on the windscreen heater at ambient temperature < 10° C). The maximal operating time of the windscreen heater is 4 minutes.
3 - Blower speed display for front seats. Display is dynamic in automatic mode.
4 - Display “AUTO” (automatic mode), “ECON” (air conditioner compressor off) or “OFF” (entire system off).
5 - Ambient temperature display. Ambient temperature is measured by ambient temperature sensor -G17-. In event of failure “- - -” appears in display. If road speed drops below 15 km/h and the coolant temperature is above 70° C, the value displayed will not change. The actual measured value is not displayed because at slow speeds it will be influenced by the heat build-up in the engine. When the ignition is switched off, the last displayed ambient temperature is stored for 2 hours. When the ignition is on, parked time is < 2 hours and v is < 15 km/h, the last displayed ambient temperature is retained unless it is colder than the last stored temperature. When the ignition is on, parked time is < 2 hours and v is > 15 km/h, after a specified time, the displayed ambient temperature is corrected upwards towards a higher temperature (higher than the last displayed temperature). When the ignition is on and parked time is > 2 hours, the current ambient temperature is displayed immediately.
6 - Display for windscreen defrosting (also appears when electric windscreen heating is switched on)
7 - Display for fresh and air recirculation
8 - Air flow direction display
9 - Selected interior temperature for front seats display
10 - Blower speed display for rear seats (is dynamic in automatic mode)
11 - Selected interior temperature display for rear seats
12 - Button for automatic mode
13 - Trim grille
14 - Air recirculation button
15 - “Blower speed faster” button for front seats
16 - “Blower speed slower” button for front seats (this button also switches system off)
17 - Button for “air flow to upper body”
18 - Button for “air flow to footwell”
19 - “Colder” button for front seats
20 - “Warmer” button for front seats
21 - “Blower speed slower” button for rear seats (this button also switches off the system for the rear seats)
22 - “Blower speed faster” button for rear seats
23 - “Colder” button for rear seats
24 - “Warmer” button for rear seats
25 - “ECON” (compressor off) button

t  The automatic regulation of the system can be influenced with buttons -2-, -14-, -15-, -16-, -17-, -18-, -21- and -22-.
t  Climatronic can be completely switched off only with button -16-. To do this, press the button until “OFF” appears in the display. Because the flaps remain in the last position set when this function is used, this manner of selection should only be used in special circumstances e.g. when there is a malfunction.
t  The rear system can be shut off for the rear seats via button -21- for “blower speed slower”. To do this, press the button until no blower speed appears in the display for rear seats.
t  A temperature deviation of ±3° C in the rear seats compared to the selected interior temperature for the front seats is possible via buttons -24-, for “warmer” and button -23-, for “colder”.
t  Pressing button -2- also switches on the windscreen heater, providing the windscreen heater has not already been activated by the windscreen button. The maximal operating time is 4 minutes.
t  In ECON mode, only the air conditioner compressor is switched off; heating and ventilation continue to be controlled electronically.
t  Pressing the “AUTO” button -12- cancels all settings which deviate from automatic operation.
t  Pressing and holding the “ECON” button -25- at the same time as pressing the “AUTO” button -12- changes the display from degrees Celsius to Fahrenheit and vice versa. The selected temperature unit appears in the display.
