Calculation of the demultiplication ratio “I”
Calculation of the demultiplication ratio “I”
The demultiplication ratio between two pinions is obtained by dividing the number of teeth of the driven pinion by the number of teeth on the drive pinion.
Example:

 5th gearConic
Drive pinion (primary)47 (Z Primary)15 (Z Pinion)
Driven pinion (secondary)40 (Z Secondary)64 (Z Crown)

In this way we can find:
Ig = Demultiplication Ratio in one gear
Ig =
Z Secondary
Z Primary
=
40
47
= 0,85
Ia = Demultiplication Ratio of the conic group
Ia =
Z Crown
Z Pinion
=
64
15
= 4,267
Itotal = Total Demultiplication Ratio
It is obtained by multiplying the demultiplication ratios of the longest gear and the conic group.
Itotal = Ig x Ia = 0,851 x 4,267 = 3,631
