t  Compression gauge -VAG 1763- with Adaptor for the compression gauge -VAG 1763/8-
Test condition
l  Engine oil temperature at least. 80 ℃
l  Battery voltage at least 12.5 V
Checking sequence
–  Remove engine cover → Chapter

–  Separate the electrical connector on the fuel pressure regulating valve -N 276--arrow- on the high-pressure reservoir (rail).
–  Briefly start engine to relieve fuel pressure in the high-pressure reservoir (rail).

–  Remove all glow plugs using U/J extension and socket -3220- → Chapter.
–  Screw in adapter -V.A.G 1763/8- in place of the glow plugs and connect compression tester -V.A.G 1763-.
  Note
Using the compression tester → Operating instructions.
–  Have a 2nd mechanic operate starter until tester shows no further pressure increase.

Installation is carried out in reverse sequence; note the following:
–  Install glow plugs → Chapter.
–  Events will be stored in the engine control unit if electrical connectors have been unplugged and the engine started: Interrogate event memory in Vehicle self-diagnosis → .
