t  Engine and gearbox jack -SAT 1040-
Removal:
  Note
Before carrying out further work, disconnect battery earth strap. To this end, it is necessary to check whether the vehicle has a coded radio. If so, refer to the anti-theft coding.
–  First check whether a coded radio is fitted. If this is the case consult the anti-theft coding.
–  Note safety precautions before starting work → Chapter
–  Observe rules for cleanliness → Chapter.
–  With the ignition switched off, disconnect battery earth strap.
–  Remove cover from fuel tank filler neck and unscrew the cap from the fuel tank.
–  Drain fuel tank, clean fuel filler and surrounding area.
–  Fold rear seat bench forwards.
–  Remove cover from fuel delivery unit under rear seat.

–  Remove connector from flange -1- .
–  Remove activated charcoal filter → Item.
–  Remove guards underneath fuel tank.
–  Remove from body all fixings from rear part of exhaust system. Then lower the exhaust system a little, hanging it from the body with wire.
–  Remove rear axle → Running gear; Rep. gr.42.
  WARNING
Fuel system is under pressure! Before opening the system place a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling fuel hose from connection. Wear safety goggles and appropriate clothing to avoid injury and contact with skin.

–  Pull off supply hose -1- (Black) and vent pipe -2- (white). Push the buttons on the fuel hose coupling for this purpose.
–  Remove the retaining straps and unscrew the fixing screws. In doing so, support the fuel tank using the engine and gearbox jack -SAT 1040-.
–  Removing fuel tank.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal while noting the following:

t  Breather and fuel hoses are to be installed kink-free.
t  Ensure that fuel hose connections are tight.
t  Do not mix up the feed and return tubes (Return tube blue or with blue marking, feed tube black).
t  Fit rear axle → Running gear; Rep. gr.42.
t  After installing fuel tank, check that the supply, return and breather lines are still clipped onto the fuel tank.
t  After replacing (fitting) the fuel tank, the fuel supply system should be bled → Chapter
