Checking compression pressures
   
Checking compression pressures
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  -U-40082- Spanner
t  -SAT 8010- Torque wrench
t  -V.A.G 1381/12- Adapter
t  -V.A.G 1763- Compression tester

Conditions for checking
l  Engine oil temperature min. 30 °C.
Test sequence
–  Disconnect the 10-pole connector for the fuel shut-off valve -N109- (connector to the servomechanism of injection pump dosing system) → Item.
–  Remove the glow plug connectors.
–  Remove all glow plugs using jointed spanner-U-40082-.
   
–  Screw in adapter -V.A.G 1381/12- in place of the glow plugs.
–  Check compression pressure with compression tester -V.A.G 1763- prüfen.
  Note!
Using the compression tester ⇒ Operating instructions.
–  Operate starter until tester shows no further pressure increase.
Compression pressure:
   New: 25...31 bar
   Wear limit: 19 bar
Permissible difference between all cylinders: 5 bar
–  Install glow plugs with jointed spanner -U-40082-.
   Tightening torque: 15 Nm
–  Interrogate fault memory → Chapter.
  Note!
Faults will have been stored because the connector to injection pump has been separated. Therefore interrogate and erase fault memory.
