Filling
Filling
  Note!
t  Only coolant G 12 conforming to TL VW 774 D may be used.
t  On no account may G 12 be mixed with other coolant additives!
t  If the fluid in the expansion tank is brown, G 12 has been mixed with another coolant. In this case the coolant must be changed.
t  G 12 and coolant additives marked “In accordance with TL VW 774 D” prevent frost and corrosion damage, scaling and also raises the boiling point of the coolant. For this reason the system must be filled all-year-round with frost and corrosion protection additives.
t  Due to its high boiling point, the coolant improves engine reliability under heavy loads, particularly in countries with tropical climates.
t  Protect against frost to approx. -25 °C (in arctic climatic countries to approx. -35 °C).
t  The coolant concentration must not be reduced by adding water even in warmer seasons and in warm climate countries. The anti-freeze ratio must be at least 40 %.
t  If for climatic reasons a greater frost protection is required, the amount of G 12 can be increased, but only up to 60 % (frost protection to approx. -40 °C), as otherwise frost protection is reduced again and cooling effectiveness is also reduced.
t  If the radiator, the heat exchanger, the cylinder head or the cylinder head gasket are replaced, the old coolant must not be reused in the engine.
t  When refilling the coolant system use only G 12 to the correct frost protection ratio.

1)  The exact quantity of coolant can vary according to the vehicle equipment.

–  Fill with coolant slowly up to max. mark on the expansion tank. Filling takes approx. 5 minutes.
–  Fit expansion tank sealing cap.
–  Start engine and maintain an engine speed of approx. 2000 rpm for approx. 3 minutes.
–  Run engine until radiator fan cuts-in.
–  Check coolant level and top-up if necessary. When engine is at normal operating temperature, the coolant level must be on the max. mark and between the min. and max. marks when engine is cold.
