Removing and installing oil sump > < Removing and installing parts of the lubrication system

Work sequence
–  Remove centre as well as the left and right-hand sound insulation trays: → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. Gr.50
–  Drain engine oil.
–  Remove cable guide clamps on oil sump.
–  Disconnect front exhaust pipe at exhaust manifold → Chapter, Exhaust manifold, front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter and attachments/ancillaries.
–  Remove cover plate for flywheel.
–  Unbolt the oil sump (sealed with liquid gasket).
–  Remove the oil sump. There may be a necessary to release the oil sump with light blows of a rubber head hammer.
–  Remove the sealant remains on the cylinder block with a flat scraper.
   
–  Remove the sealant remains on the oil sump with a rotating brush, e.g. a hand drill with a plastic brush insert (wear eye protection).
–  Clean the sealing surfaces. They must be free of oil and grease.
