Removing
Observe safety precautions → Chapter.
Observe rules for cleanliness → Chapter.
–  Remove fuel filler cap.
l  The fuel tank must be empty when it is removed from the vehicle in order to reduce weight. Drain the tank if necessary.
  WARNING
When disconnecting battery, observe safety measures → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.27.
–  Disconnect earth wire at battery with ignition switched off.
–  Unscrew and remove filler cap assembly.
–  Move rear seat forward.
–  Remove fuel delivery unit cap located beneath rear seat.
   
–  Detach flange from connector -arrow-.
–  Remove the engine cavity moulding of the rear right wheel housing → Bodywork, exterior installation jobs; Rep. Gr.66.

–  Unscrew bolts -arrows- for fuel filler neck.

–  Remove vent hose from activated charcoal filter -1- and the pressure maintenance valve -2-; press in locking pins.
–  Remove the rear axle: → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. Gr.42.
–  Remove from body all fixings from rear part of exhaust system. Next lower the the exhaust system a little, securing it to the body with wire.

–  Detach supply pipe -1- (black), return pipe -2- (blue) and vent pipe -3- (white), pressing in locking pins.
  WARNING
Fuel system is under pressure! Before opening the system place a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully loosening the connection.
–  Remove guards underneath fuel tank.
–  Remove securing straps from fuel tank, supporting tank with hydraulic jack -SAT 1040- .
–  Removing fuel tank.
