  Note
The Motronic current supply relay -J271- supplies current to the output stages of the ignition oils, as well as the engine control unit through contact 121.
Test sequence
–  Remove engine cover .
   
–  Remove 4-pin connector -1- from one of the ignition coils -2-.

–  Measure the voltage supply with the multimeter and the measuring tool set -VAG 1594C-in the following manner:

Connector, contactMeasure at
1Engine earth

–  Switch on ignition.
Specification: approx. battery voltage.
If specification is not attained:
–  Switch off ignition.
–  Remove the shelf on driver's side: → Bodywork, interior fitting work; Rep. Gr.68
   
–  Check connection between connector and relay carrier:

If wiring is OK
–  Check the voltage supply of the Motronic current supply relay -J271- → Chapter.
–  Check the activation of the Motronic current supply relay -J271- → Chapter.
