Filling / bleeding high-pressure pump / fuel system
  Caution
After installation, the high-pressure pump must first be filled with fuel before the engine is started (the pump must NOT be allowed to run while still empty).
If components of the fuel system between the tank and the high-pressure fuel pump are removed or renewed, the basic setting „Checking fuel system pressurisation pump“ must be performed to bleed the fuel system.
  Note
t  When installing the high-pressure fuel pump, it is essential to ensure that no dirt enters the fuel system.
t  Only remove sealing plugs immediately prior to installation of fuel pipes.
t  Fuel must be present in the fuel tank of the vehicle.
t  The bleeding procedure is necessary after any work on the fuel supply system. (Fuel pump, fuel lines, fuel filter).
l  There must be sufficient fuel in the tank.
l  Temperature of fuel system ≥ 15 °C.
l  Temperature of fuel ≥ 15 °C.
To bleed/fill the fuel system, it is necessary to meet these conditions.

Proceed as follows to fill high-pressure pump/fuel system with fuel:
–  Connect the central diagnosis -VAS 505xx-.
–  Switch on the ignition.
–  Under Guided Functions, call up the function »high-pressure pump / fuel system: Purging«.
Bleeding
The purging process takes about 180 seconds.
  Note
There could still be air bubbles in the fuel system after the bleeding procedure.
–  Start engine and perform visual check of fuel system for leaks.
  Caution
Do not prolong attempted starting for longer than 15 seconds. If the engine does not start, repeat the bleeding process twice.
–  After filling the fuel system and successfully starting the engine, allow it to run for a few minutes at a moderate speed. Switch off the engine.
–  Check the high-pressure system for leaks again.
–  Interrogate fault memory and erase stored fault if necessary.
–  Then test drive the vehicle over a distance greater than 20 km with at least one full acceleration. Then check high-pressure part of fuel system again for leakage.
  Note
If air should still be found in the fuel system, the engine only runs with the emergency program. Switch off the engine and erase the fault memory. Then continue road test.
–  Read fault memory.
