Renewing crankshaft oil seal - belt pulley end
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Oil seal extractor -3203-
t  Counterhold tool -3415-
t  Assembly tool -T10053-
t  Torque wrench (5...50 Nm) -V.A.G 1331-
t  Torque wrench (40...200 Nm) -V.A.G 1332-

Removing
–  Remove poly V-belt → Chapter.
–  Remove toothed belt → Chapter.
–  Remove charge air pipe → Item.
–  Unbolt charge air pipe bracket from sump → Item
   
–  Remove crankshaft toothed belt pulley. To do this, lock toothed belt pulley using counter-hold tool -3415-.
–  To guide seal extractor, screw centre bolt into crankshaft to stop by hand.
–  Screw inner part of oil seal extractor -3203- two turns (approx. 3 mm) out of outer part and lock with knurled screw.

–  Lubricate threaded head of oil seal extractor, place it in position and exerting firm pressure screw it into oil seal as far as possible.
–  Loosen knurled screw and turn inner part against crankshaft until the oil seal is pulled out.
Installing
  Note
The oil seal sealing lip must not be additionally oiled or greased.
–  Remove oil residue from crankshaft journal using clean cloth.

–  Fit guide sleeve -T10053/1- onto crankshaft journal.
–  Slide oil seal over guide sleeve onto crankshaft journal.

–  Using press sleeve -T10053-, press in onto stop with central bolt.
  N13-0514
–  Install crankshaft toothed belt pulley and lock with counter-hold tool -3415-.
  Note
t  The contact surfaces between toothed belt pulley and crankshaft must be free of oil.
t  The centre bolt must be renewed.
t  Thread and shoulder must be free of oil and grease.
–  Tighten new centre bolt to 120 Nm and then 1/4 turn (90°) further (turning further can be done in several stages).
Further assembly is basically the reverse of the dismantling procedure.
–  Installing and tensioning toothed belt → Chapter.
–  Installing poly V-belt → Chapter.
