Checking cables and components with the tester -VAG 1598/31-
Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Test box -VAG 1598/31-, see equivalent → Anchor
  Note
t  The tester -VAG 1598/31- is designed to be simultaneously connected to the cable harness going to the engine control unit and the unit itself.
t  This has the advantage that, when the tester box -VAG 1598/31- is connected, the electronic engine control unit remains completely operative (for example, measurement of signals with the engine running).
t  The need to additionally connect the control unit to the test box is indicated in the corresponding test processes.
t  The connector contact number and the test box -VAG 1598/31- connection number coincide.
  WARNING
Before connecting the measuring cables, select the appropriate measurement field and follow the test procedures to avoid damaging electronic components.
Procedure:
–  Switch ignition OFF.

Unlock the engine control unit connectors and pull them off .
–  Release the connector fixings and detach the connectors from the engine control unit.

–  Switch on the tester -V.A.G 1598/31- . The tester clip should be connected to earth.
–  Carry out the verification as described in the corresponding repair process → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051.
–  Once the verifications are done, fit the engine control unit .
Following the initial connection of the engine control unit, the following operations must be carried out:
–  Consult and erase the fault memory → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051.
