Safety precautions when working on fuel supply system
  WARNING
The hot fuel may cause burns.
t  In extreme cases, the temperatures of the fuel lines or the fuel itself can reach up to 100° C. Let the fuel cool down before opening the line connection, or else there is a risk of serious injuries.
t  Wear protection gloves.
t  Wear eye protection.
Injury risk! Fuel is subjected to high pressure!
To reduce the pressure in the fuel system, wrap a clean cloth around the connection and carefully loosen the connection.
When removing and installing components from a full or partly full fuel tank, note the following:
t  The fuel tank should only be partially full. Read the respective job description to find out how much fuel can remain in the fuel tank. Empty the tank if necessary. Procedure for vehicles with a front wheel drive → Chapter.
t  Before commencing work, switch on exhaust extraction system and place an extraction hose close to the sender opening in the fuel tank to extract escaping petrol fumes. If no exhaust gas extraction system is available, a radial fan with a displacement greater than 15 m3/h can be used providing that motor is not in air flow.
t  Avoid skin contact with the fuel! Use fuel resistant gloves!
When removing and installing the fuel tank, note the following:
t  Fuel tank must be empty to reduce weight. Empty the tank if necessary. Procedure for vehicles with a front wheel drive → Chapter.
t  If the vehicle fuel tank is emptied completely, it is necessary to actuate the contact for at least 30 seconds after fuelling without starting the engine. If an attempt is made to start the engine immediately, it will take longer than usual to start (up to one minute). This is because it is necessary to remove the air from the fuel system before the engine can start.
