Measures in the 1st case
Measures in the 1st case
–  Do not switch on the ignition.
–  Empty the fuel tank as far as possible via fuel filler neck using fuel extractor -VAS 5190- → Chapter.
–  Disconnect connector on supplementary fuel pump -V393- (Inline EFP) in engine compartment.
–  Remove seat bench → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.72.
–  Remove cover of fuel delivery unit.
  Note
Press in securing ring to release fuel line.
   
–  Remove the fuel supply unit (black or with black markings) -A- from the fuel supply unit.
–  Connect the pipe -VAS 6550/1- of the test and measuring instrument to the fuel supply line -A-.
–  Guide the open end of the line into a suitable container.
–  Connect vehicle diagnosis tester and perform the guided function „Checking electric fuel pump(s)“ or „Draining fuel system“ depending on software version.
  Note
The fuel pump is now activated. Actuation is limited to 30 s with guided function „Checking electric fuel pump(s)“. Repeat procedure until fuel tank is completely empty.
After emptying the fuel tank:
–  Fill fuel tank with 5 litres of diesel and drain it again using guided function „Checking electric fuel pump(s)“ or „Draining fuel system“.

–  Connect the fuel supply unit (black or with black markings) -A- back onto the fuel supply unit.
–  Reconnect connector to supplementary fuel pump -V393- (Inline EFP) in engine compartment.
–  Fill the tank full with diesel fuel.
–  Perform a road test.
