Glow plugs: removing and installing t  Glow plugs: Removing → Anchor t  Glow plugs: Fitting → Anchor Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter. Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Articulated wrench e/c 10 -3220-, see equivalent → Anchor

t  Base -3314-, see equivalent → Anchor Removing –  Switch ignition OFF.

–  Disconnect the engine cover-arrow-.

–  Remove connectors -5, 6, 7 and 8- from glow plugs. –  Clean glow plug openings in cylinder head; make sure no dirt gets into cylinder.   Note t  Cleaning procedure: t  Use a vacuum cleaner to remove coarse dirt. t  Spray brake cleaner or suitable cleaning agent into glow plug apertures, let it work in briefly, and blow out with compressed air. t  Then clean the glow plug openings using a cloth moistened with oil.   Caution Ensure that the line connections are not damaged when removing the connectors on glow plugs, otherwise it is necessary to replace the entire wiring harness. Do not press pliers -3314- together too firmly when removing glow plug connectors to prevent damaging the bearing fittings

–  Position pliers -3314- with pliers groove -arrow A- on collar of bearing installing-arrow B- and remove glow plug connectors from glow plugs.   Note t  Glow plug 1 -Q10--5- t  Glow plug 2 -Q11--6- t  Glow plug 3 -Q12--7-

t  Glow plug 4 -Q13--8-

–  To tighten the glow plugs use special tool U/J extension and socket, 10 mm -3220- with a suitable torque wrench. Installing –  To tighten the glow plugs, use the jointed spanner E/C 10 -3220- with a suitable torque wrench. –  Then tighten glow plugs to specified torque. t  Tightening torque: 17 Nm –  Reconnect the glow plug connectors to the respective plugs and ensure a secure connection. –  Delete the event memory of engine control unit.
