Removing
  Note
t  The camshafts are mounted in the camshaft housing on this engine. Before removing camshaft housing, first remove valve timing housing.
t  Removing and installing valve timing housing → Chapter.
t  The camshaft housing sealing surface must not be reworked.
–  First check whether a coded radio is fitted. If so, obtain anti-theft coding.
–  With ignition switched off, disconnect battery earth strap.
–  Remove air filter → Chapter.
–  Drain coolant → Chapter.
–  Remove coolant hoses and line/wiring guides.
–  Unscrew securing bolts and remove camshaft sealing covers -1-.
–  Remove turbocharger → Chapter
–  Turn crankshaft to TDC no. 1 cylinder. Then turn crankshaft back 45° against engine direction and remove camshaft timing sprockets with timing chain → Chapter
–  Unbolt sealing caps for camshafts.
–  Pull connectors off fuel pressure sender for low-pressure -G410- and off high-pressure pump.
–  Unscrew earth cable from camshaft housing.
–  Remove ignition coils. Use puller -T10094 A- for this purpose → Chapter.
–  Detach wiring guide together wiring harness from camshaft housing.
  WARNING
Fuel supply lines are under pressure! Wear eye protection and gloves to avoid injuries and skin contact. Before loosening hose connections, wrap a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling hose off connection.
   
–  Pull connector and fuel supply line -arrows- off high-pressure pump.

–  Remove wiring guide -2- and remove connector -4- from Hall sender -G40-.
  Note
Use a spanner to counterhold threaded connections on high pressure pump and on lower part of intake manifold when loosening union nuts.
–  Loosen union nuts -3- and -1- of high-pressure line.
–  Pull out oil dipstick.
–  Remove lower part of intake manifold → Item.
–  Unbolt left lifting eye.
–  Loosen the camshaft housing bolts, from outside to inside, diagonally.
–  Carefully lift camshaft housing off.
