Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Coolant tester -SAT 1274-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Adaptor -VAG 1274/8-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Adaptor -VAG 1274/9-, see equivalent → Anchor

Test requirements
l  Engine warm
Test sequence
  WARNING
Hot steam may be emitted on opening the expansion tank. The sealing cap must be be covered with a cloth and opened carefully.
–  Open the cap of the coolant expansion tank.
–  Place cooling system tester -SAT 1274- into the expansion tank with the adapter -VAG 1274/8-.
–  Using the hand pump on the tester, build up a pressure of approx. 1 bar.
If the pressure now drops:
–  Look for the point of leakage in the installation and eliminate the fault.
Check pressure relief valve in filler cap
–  Place cooling system tester -SAT 1274- in filler cap with adapter -VAG 1274/9-.
–  Operate hand vacuum pump. The pressure release valve must open at an excess pressure of 1.4 … 1.6 bar.
