Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Refractometer -T10007-
t  Drip tray -V.A.G 1306- or drip tray for workshop hoist -VAS 6208-
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331- (5...50 Nm)
t  Spring-type clip pliers -VAS 5024-

Removing
–  Drain coolant → Chapter.
Vehicles with engine code AJH
–  Pull upper coolant hose off radiator.
–  Detach bottom coolant hose from the clips on the air ducting.
–  Pull the air hoses off charge air cooler.
–  Remove air pipe between charge air cooler and throttle valve control module → Chapter, Removing and installing parts of the charge air cooling system: engine code AJH.
–  Pull connectors off thermo switch, secondary air pump motor -V101- and radiator fan.
–  Remove thermo switch.
–  Remove reinforcement strut.
–  Unscrew fan ring securing bolts and remove fan ring with fan.
Vehicles with air conditioning:
–  Observe additional remarks and installation work → Anchor.
–  Remove lateral radiator securing bolts.
–  Lift radiator out downwards with charge air cooler.
–  Unbolt charge air cooler from radiator.
Vehicles with engine code AWC
–  Pull out retaining clips for upper coolant hose and remove coolant hose from quick-release coupling of radiator.
–  Detach lower coolant hose from bracket on the air ducting.
–  Remove bracket for lower coolant hose.
–  Pull the air hoses off charge air cooler.
–  Remove air pipe between charge air cooler and throttle valve control module → Chapter, Removing and installing parts of the charge air cooling system: engine code AWC.
–  Pull connectors off thermo switch and radiator fan.
Vehicles with air conditioning:
–  Observe additional remarks and installation work → Anchor.
–  Remove lateral radiator securing bolts.
–  Lift radiator out downwards with charge air cooler.
–  Unbolt charge air cooler from radiator.
Additional information and removal instructions for vehicles with an air conditioner
  Caution
The air conditioner refrigerant circuit must not be opened.
  Note!
To prevent damage to condenser or to refrigerant pipes and hoses, ensure that pipes and hoses are not stretched, kinked or bent.
–  Remove retaining clamp(s) for refrigerant lines.
Vehicles with engine code AJH
–  Remove radiator grille with trim frame → Rep. Gr.66.
–  Remove left headlight: → Rep. Gr.94.
Vehicles with engine code AWC
–  Unscrew fan ring securing bolts and remove fan ring with fan.
Continuation for all vehicles
–  Remove lateral radiator securing bolts.
–  Remove condenser from radiator.
–  Secure condenser to body so that the refrigerant lines/hoses are not under tension.
–  Lift radiator out downwards with charge air cooler.
–  Unbolt charge air cooler from radiator.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order. When installing, note the following:
–  Electrical connections and routing → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
Filling with new coolant → Chapter.
Vehicles with engine code AJH
–  Check headlight adjustment and correct if necessary → Booklet10.1.
–  Install radiator grille with trim frame → Rep. Gr.66.
