Exhaust gas recirculation: verification
Exhaust gas recirculation: verification
Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Voltmeter -V.A.G 1527B-
  W00-0513
t  Auxiliary measurement tool set -V.A.G 1594A- or -V.A.G 1594C-
Checking process
–  Start the engine and let it run at idle.
  W00-0477
–  The exhaust gas recirculation valve membrane, moves towards the union of the flexible depression tube, (test by placing a hand underneath the valve -arrow-), exhaust gasses are fed in.
–  Increase engine speed to more than 3200/min; when exceeding this engine speed the gas recirculation stops (the membrane moves in the direction of the exhaust manifold).
If the exhaust gas recirculation system does not work in this manner; check the operation of the two-way gas recirculation valve as follows:
–  Switch ignition off.
  N26-0078
–  Remove the double connector -2- from the two-way exhaust gas recirculation valve -N161--1-.
–  Connect the voltmeter -V.A.G 1527B- along with the auxiliary measurement tool set -V.A.G 1594C- to the terminals of the connector.
–  Start the engine and let it run at idle. The LED must light up.
–  Increase the engine speed to more than 3200/min. The LED must turn off.
If the diode does not light up and turn off as described:
–  Check the connections according to the electric circuits diagram; if necessary, replace the exhaust gas recirculation cycle control unit -J179-.
If the diode does light up and turn off as described:
–  Check the operation of the exhaust gas recirculation valve -N18- → Chapter.
–  Check the operation of the two-way exhaust gas recirculation valve -N161- → Chapter.
