Engine number

The engine number (engine code and serial number) is engraved on the front of the engine block, gearbox side, -arrow- below the thermostat housing.
Additionally there is a sticker on the toothed belt guard with Engine code and Serial number -arrow-.
The engine code also appears in the vehicle documents.
The engine number consists of up to nine symbols (alphanumeric). The first part (a maximum of 3 code letters) represents the “engine code” and the second part (six-digit) the “serial number”. If more than 999,999 engines have been produced with the same engine code, the first number is substituted by a letter.
