Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Universal dial gauge support -VW 387-, see equivalent → Anchor

t  Gauge -VAS 6079-, see equivalent → Anchor
Operation process
  Note
t  If the valve is renewed as part of a repair, use a new valve for the measurement.
t  Due to differing stem diameters, only use intake valve in intake guide and exhaust valve in exhaust guide.

–  Attach the gauge -VAS 6079- with the universal gauge support -VW 387- to the cylinder head.
–  Insert valve into valve guide.
l  The end of the valve stem must be flush with the guide.
–  Determine rock.
l  Wear limit: 1.0 mm.
–  If the wear limit is exceeded, repeat the measurement with new valves.
–  Renew cylinder head if wear limit is still exceeded.
  Note
Valve guides cannot be exchanged.
