Safety precautions when working on fuel supply system
When working on the fuel system note the following warnings:
  WARNING
Injury risk! Fuel is subjected to very high pressure!
t  The fuel pressure in the high-pressure section of the injection system must be reduced to a residual pressure prior to opening the system.
t  Wrap a clean cloth around the connection and carefully loosen the connection to allow the residual pressure to dissipate.
  WARNING
Escaping fuel can cause a fire risk.
The power supply for the fuel system pressurisation pump -G6- must be disconnected before opening the fuel system, since -G6- will be activated briefly when the driver's door is opened with the battery still connected.
  WARNING
The fuse allocation may have changed depending on the date.
You can obtain current information under → Electrical circuit diagrams, fault finding and installation points
–  Remove the fuse for the fuel pump control unit -J538-. Note the following:
On models: Altea, Altea XL, Toledo

–  Remove the cover located under the steering wheel.
–  Fuse holder under the dash panel - SC47--Fuse 47 in fuse holder C- for the fuel pump control unit -J538-.
On model: León
  N97-0511
–  Remove the left cover of the dash panel
–  Fuse holder on the side of the dash panel - SC27--Fuse 27 in fuse holder C- for the fuel pump control unit -J538-.
Observe the following to prevent injuries to persons and damage to the injection and ignition system:
t  Always switch off the ignition before connecting or disconnecting electrical wiring for the injection or ignition system or tester cables.
t  Always switch off ignition before washing engine.
t  Upon disconnecting electrical connectors faults are registered in the engine control unit:
–  With ignition switched off, connect vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 505X-.
–  Start „Guided Functions“ mode.
–  Generate readiness code in engine control unit.
  Caution
When disconnecting the battery there is a risk of serious damage to electronic components:
t  Observe the correct procedure for disconnecting the battery.
t  Always switch off the ignition before disconnecting the battery.
–  Disconnect battery . → Rep. gr.27
When working on the cooling system note the following warnings:
  WARNING
Hot steam/hot coolant can escape - risk of scalding.
t  The cooling system is under pressure when the engine is hot.
t  Cover filler cap on expansion tank with a cloth and open carefully to release pressure.

Observe the following precautions if test equipment has to be used when road-testing the vehicle.
  WARNING
Accidents can be caused if the driver is distracted by test equipment or if test equipment is not secured.
Injuries can also be caused if the passenger's airbag is triggered in a collision.
l  The use of test equipment while driving causes distraction.
l  There is an increased risk of injury if test and measuring equipment is not secured.
The test units -1- should be tied down to the rear seat with a belt and operated from said seat by a second person.
