| Engine secured to engine and gearbox stand -VAS 6095- → Chapter. |

| Dismount cylinder head: |

| Mark the installation position of the piston as well as its correspondence to the respective cylinder. |

| Mark the installation position of the conrod and its correspondence to the respective cylinder → Item. |

| Remove the conrod and take the piston and conrod out upwards. |
Note In case the piston bolt is difficult to move, heat the piston to about 60°C. |

| Remove retaining ring on the allotment opening of the piston bolt. |
–
| Press out the piston bolt using the drift -VW 222A-. |
Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence; note the following: |

| Renew the bolts tightened with specified tightening angle. |

| The arrow on piston crown arrows points in direction of the plate. |

| Insert the segment in such a way that the holes are offset 120° to each other. |

| Lubricate the sliding surface of the half bearings. |

| Insert the piston using a commercially available segment compressor considering the installation position in the process → Item. |

| Insert the conrod bearing cover considering the installation position in the process → Item. |
