Fuel tank at more than 3/4 capacity: draining
  Caution
Secure the earth cable of the fuel extractor -VAS 5190- to the bodywork.
   
–  Remove the taper -2- from the channel -1- of the fuel extractor -VAS 5190-.
–  Using insulation tape, mark the point -arrow- on the suction hose at a distance -a- = 1180 mm from the end of the tube.

–  Remove filler cap from fuel tank filler neck.
–  Tighten the channel -1- of the fuel extractor -VAS 5190- to the fuel tank filler mouth.
–  Insert the suction hose up until the mark made previously -arrow- is at the level of the rod.

  A20-0698
At the lower end of the filling mouth, there is a ball valve -2- on the fuel tank -1-. Avoid damage to this with the suction hose -3-. As much, only insert the hose to the mark -arrow-.
–  Empty the fuel tank as much as possible through the filler mouth.
–  Carefully extract the suction hose.
  Note
t  When the fuel is not extracted, the fuel tank is sufficiently empty to open the gauge flange without any risk. The fuel tank can be removed with the remaining fuel.
t  If it is necessary to carry out work on the fuel pump or the fuel gauge, proceed as follows:
