Checking distribution timing
Checking distribution timing
–  Remove the upper cover of the distribution chain → Chapter.

–  Release the fasteners -1 and 2- to remove the central soundproofing sump.
–  Disconnect the right charger air hose on the quick-connector.
  A10-10761
–  Rotate the vibration damper with the retention tool -T10355- up to the »TDC position«-arrow-. Apply this from below.
  Note
t  Use a ratchet with a 24 mm socket to turn the vibration damper When the crankshaft rotates beyond the »TDC«, the crankshaft must be rotated by approx. 45° against the direction of the engine again. Then turn the crankshaft in the direction of rotation of the engine until it reaches the »TDC position«.
t  If the marking of the arrow on the bottom cover of the chain is no longer visible, the engine must be set to the »TDC position« using the gauge -VAS 6079- → Chapter.
l  Notch on vibration damper must align with arrow marking on cover for timing chains (use a mirror).
l  The markings -1- on the camshafts must face upwards.
  A15-10451
–  Measure the distance from the outer edge of web -A- to marking -B- on the inlet camshaft.
l  Specification: 61 ... 64 mm.
  N15-10700
–  If the specified value is achieved, measure the distance between the marking on the inlet camshaft -B- and the marking on the exhaust camshaft -C-.
l  Specification: 124 ... 126 mm
  Note
The offset of a tooth means a deviation of approx. 6 mm from the specified value. If an offset is determined, the timing chain must be re-adjusted.
