Removing and installing catalytic converter t  removing → Anchor t  installing → Anchor Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Lambda probe open ring spanner set -3337-

t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-

removing –  Separate the under body protection. –  Disconnect plug connections -3, 4-. –  Expose the electric lines of the Lambda probe -G39- that lead to the heat plate of the catalytic converter. –  Unscrew Lambda probe -G39--item 1- using Lambda probe open ring spanner set -3337-.

–  Remove the connector -2-.   Note Disregard: -Items 1, 3, 4-. –  Remove poly V-belt → Chapter.

–  Unplug the electrical connector -1- from the air conditioner compressor regulating valve -N280-.   WARNING Risk of injury caused by refrigerant. The air conditioner refrigerant circuit must not be opened. –  Remove bolts -arrows- for air conditioner compressor.   Caution Danger of damage to refrigerant lines and hoses. Do NOT stretch, kink or bend refrigerant lines and hoses. –  Carefully attach the air-conditioning compressor with the refrigerant hoses still connected to the longitudinal member.

–  Unscrew bolts -arrows- and remove heat shield.

–  Remove nuts -2-.   Note Disregard -items 1, 3-.

–  Unscrew the nuts -arrow- and the screws -1, 2- and remove the left catalytic converter. installing Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removing, when doing this note the following. l  Tightening torques → Chapter   Note Replace the seals and nuts. –  Tighten the nuts and bolts on the catalytic converter. → Fig. –  Install the exhaust pipe → Chapter. –  Install air conditioner compressor → Rep. gr.87. –  Install poly V-belt → Chapter.
