Safety precautions when working on the fuel system |
Caution When doing any repair work, especially in the engine compartment, pay attention to the following due to the cramped conditions: |
t
| All the various lines (e.g. fuel, coolant, refrigerant, vacuum and electrical wiring) must be installed so that their original positions are reproduced. |
t
| In order to avoid damage to the lines, ensure sufficient clearance for all moving or hot components. |
|
When removing and installing the fuel level sender -G- or fuel pump (fuel delivery unit) from a full or partly full fuel tank, the following must be observed: |
WARNING Fuel system is under pressure. Wear safety goggles and appropriate clothing to avoid injury and contact with skin. Before loosening hose connections, wrap a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling hose off connection. |
|
t
| Before beginning work, place the suction hose of an exhaust extraction system near the assembly opening. |
t
| If no exhaust gas extraction system is available, a radial fan with a displacement greater than 15 m3/h can be used providing that motor is not in air flow. |
t
| Avoid skin contact with the fuel! Use fuel resistant gloves! |
