Removing and installing ignition coils with output stages Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Installation tool -T10118-

t  Extractor -T10094 A-   Note The housings for ignition coils with output stages have been modified. As a result, puller -T10094 A- is required for removing these ignition coils. The previous puller -T10094- can continue to be used if processed as described in the following.

–  Remove marked area -2- using suitable workshop equipment to attain the new nominal dimension -B- of 18 mm. –  Additionally identify the tool designation with the letter A -1-.

Removal: –  Unplug connector -1-. –  Remove bolts -arrows-. l  Gas hoses remain connected to gas rail. –  Release the wiring from the fixing of the carrier cover and from the gas hoses. –  Place the gas distribution rail „Gas rail“ aside without removing the cables and hoses.

–  Remove bolts -arrows- and lift the carrier cover upwards and away.

–  Fit the extractor -T10094 A-on the ignition coils with output stage -arrow- as in the illustration. –  Pull ignition coil with output stage out slightly. –  Fit the installation tool -T10118- as shown. –  Carefully loosen connector catch and pull connector off. Installation   Note t  When fitting new spark plugs, the ignition coil must be regreased using lubricating paste -G 052 141 A2- This will stop the ignition coil sealing hose from »sticking« to the spark plug. The lubricating paste must be distributed on the spark plug when inserting on the ignition coil. t  New ignition coils with output stage are lubricated when delivered.

–  Apply a thin line of lubricating paste -G 052 141 A2- around the ignition coil sealing hose -arrow-. The sealing cord must have a minimum thickness of 1 to 2 mm. –  Fit puller -T10094 A- on ignition coil with final output stage. –  Push connector onto ignition coil with final output stage until it audibly engages.

–  Press ignition coil with output stage into cylinder head in direction of -arrow-.

–  Install the carrier cover and tighten the screws -arrows- to a tightening torque of 8.5 Nm. –  Mount the cables and gas hoses on to the fixing points of the carrier cover.

–  Install the fuel rail „Gas rail“ and tighten the screws -arrows- to a tightening torque of 4 ± 0.4 Nm. –  Insert the connector -1-.
