Removal:
  Caution
When doing any repair work, especially in the engine compartment, pay attention to the following due to the cramped conditions:
t  All the various lines (e.g. fuel, hydraulic system, active carbon filter system, coolant, refrigerant, brake fluid and vacuum pipes and hoses) and electrical wiring must be installed in their original positions.
t  In order to avoid damage to the lines, ensure sufficient clearance for all moving or hot components.
–  First check whether a coded radio is fitted. If so, obtain anti-theft coding:
–  With the ignition switched off, disconnect battery earth strap. → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27
–  Remove engine cover .
–  Drain coolant → Chapter.
  WARNING
Fuel supply line is pressurised. Wear safety goggles and appropriate clothing to avoid injury and contact with skin. Before loosening hose connections, wrap a cloth around the connection. Then eliminate the pressure by carefully separating the pipe.
–  Remove extraction hose → Chapter.
  Note
Seal off the intake ports in in the bottom part of the intake manifold with a clean rag.
   
–  Screw out the coolant distribution casing -arrows-.

–  Disconnect the coolant hose -arrow- of the purging connector on the rear side of the cylinder head.
–  Disconnect all other electrical connections as necessary from cylinder head, and lay to one side.

–  Unbolt exhaust system retainer -arrow-.
–  Loosen and remove the front part of exhaust pipe on the exhaust manifold.
–  Remove poly V-belt → Chapter.
–  Remove upper notched belt guard.

–  Turn the crankshaft until the camshaft sprocket has reached the marking „TDC“ cyl. 1. The mark on the camshaft sprocket must be aligned with the arrow on the notched belt guard.
–  Loosen the tension roller fixing nut and remove the notched belt from the camshaft sprocket.
–  Remove the fixing nut and the washer of the tensioning roller.
–  Turn crankshaft back slightly.
  A13-0691
–  Remove the camshaft sprocket. To loosen the bolt, arrest the camshaft sprocket with the counterhold -3415-.
–  Remove the feather key from the camshaft.

–  Unscrew the rear toothed belt guard from the cylinder head -arrows-.
–  Remove cylinder head cover.

–  Loosen cylinder head bolts using the socket -T10070- in the sequence given and then remove completely.
–  Raise the cylinder head slightly and remove from the engine by passing it beside the timing belt guard.
  Note
t  The tension roller for the timing belt remains on the engine mount.
t  The cylinder head must be guided carefully to avoid damage.
