t  Torque wrench kit -SAT 8010-, see equivalent → Anchor

Removing
–  First remove the outer cover -1- and then the inner cover -2- upwards equally.

–  Detach the electrical connector -2- from the exhaust gas temperature sender 1 -G235-.

–  Clip out the fuel lines and coolant hoses on the right air pipe.
–  Remove bolt -1-.
–  Remove air hose (right-side) by lifting the retaining clips -arrows- slightly.

–  Detach electrical connector -1- of the engine intake manifold flap -V157-.
–  Unscrew the bolts -arrows- and remove the intake manifold flap motor -V157-.

–  Disconnect the electrical connector -1- on the exhaust gas recirculation valve -N18- with the potentiometer for regulating exhaust gases -G212-.
–  Remove the electrical harness from the brackets and move to one side.
–  Unscrew bolts -arrows-.
–  Remove the Exhaust gas recirculation valve -N18- with exhaust gas recirculation potentiometer -G212- on the intake manifold.

For improved understanding, it is shown from the rear in the illustration with engine removed.

t  Position of the exhaust gas temperature sender 1 -G235--1-.
t  Disregard -arrows-.
–  Unscrew the exhaust gas temperature sender 1 -G235--1- of the exhaust manifold from above using the socket -T40055-.
–  Take the pipe out of the bracket and remove the exhaust gas temperature sender 1 -G235-.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence; note the following:

t  Place threadlock for hot screws on the thread of the exhaust gas temperature sender; threadlock for hot screws → Spares catalogue.
t  The cable ties must be installed in their same place again.

t  When fitting the exhaust gas temperature sender with angled rod, in all cases, the dimension -a- from 3 ... 5 mm to screw support against turbocharger.
–  Insert the exhaust gas temperature sender 1 -G235- from above and, using a torque wrench, tighten using the ratchet 1/2' x 9-12 -VAG 1331/1- and the socket -T40055-.
