Automatic checking cycle
When checking and assembly work is being carried out, the other control units may find problems, such as, for example, loose connections. Therefore, when the work has finished, the fault memories of all the control units must be consulted and cleared as follows:
–  Press 0 twice to enter the direction code “Automatic checking cycle” and confirm with Q. The -V.A.G 1551- unit will successively emit all known directioon codes.
If the control unit responds with its identification, the display will show the number of faults detected or will give the message “no fault detected”.
The possible faults memorised in a system are indicated and printed successively. Then the -V.A.G 1551- gives the following direction code.
   
The automatic checking has ended when the display shows thefollowing:

1 - Fast data transmission*             
or
* the following appear alternately.
–  Clear all fault memories and then make a test run.
Note the necessary precautions when making a test run → Chapter.
During the stroke, the following service conditions must be observed:
t  The coolant temperature must exceed 80 °C
t  Once the temperature has been reached, the charging states must be attained several times
   idle
   partial charge
   full charge
   deceleration
t  At full charge, the revolutions must be increased to 3,500/min.
–  Consult the fault memory again on all control units using “Automatic checking cycle”.
If there is no fault memorised
–  Press .

2 - Intermittent code transmission*     
Indication on the display:
–  Press the keys 0 and 6 for the function “End data transmission” and confirm with Q.
–  Turn off the ignition.
