  Note
Always install all parts supplied in repair kit.
Removal:
   
–  Clamp the brake pedal block -VAG 1869/2- between the brake pedal and the drivers seat and keep the brake pedal pressed during this work procedure. Apply load to depth of approx. 60 mm. Thus the master cylinder valves close and the brake fluid tank does not empty.
–  Raise the vehicle.
–  Remove wheels.
–  Connect the hose of a bleeder bottle to a bleeder screw of the rear brake calliper.
–  Open the bleeder screw on the rear brake calliper to release pressure from the brake system.
–  Close the bleed screw.
  Note
Do not remove the block for the brake pedal -VAG 1869/2-.
–  Unscrew brake line from brake calliper → Item.

–  Remove securing bolts from brake calliper housing, when doing this counter-hold on guide pins.

–  Pull out retaining clip -1- and unhook handbrake cables at brake calliper.
–  Remove brake calliper from vehicle.
  WARNING
Do not apply brake when brake calliper is removed.
  Note
Mark brake pads when removing them if they are to be reinstalled. Reinstall in their original position to prevent uneven braking.

–  Remove the brake pads .
–  Remove guide clips.
  Note
Push brake piston into cylinder with resetting tool before inserting brake pads. Before pressing the piston back, draw off brake fluid from the reservoir with a bleeder bottle. Otherwise, fluid can overflow and cause damage, particularly if reservoir has been topped up.

–  Screw in piston by turning piston compressing and extracting tool - 3272- clockwise.
–  Take out brake pads.
Installation
Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence; note the following:
Always use new bolts → Spare parts catalogue.
  Note
If applicable, remove soiling and corrosion present on contact surfaces between brake support plate and brake pads.

–  Insert the spring from the pad.

–  Insert brake linings.

–  Ensure that the brake pads are located correctly in the pad retainers -arrows-.
  Note
Always use the four self-locking hex. head bolt included in the repair kit.

–  Fit the brake calliper housing with the new autolocking bolts.
–  Tighten bolts on brake calliper housing (35 Nm).
–  Install brake line on brake caliper → Item and tighten to 45 Nm.
–  Ensure that the brake hose is not twisted during assembly.
–  Install hand-brake cable,
  Note
After replacing the brake pads, fully step on the brake pedal a few times with the vehicle stopped, so that the pads adapt to their working position.
–  Bleed brake system → Chapter.
–  Mount the wheels → Running gear, shafts, steering; Rep. gr.44
