Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor.
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1332-, see equivalent → Anchor.
t  Piston resetting tool -T10145 -, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Removal wedge -3409-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Assembly tool for protective caps -T10146/5-
t  Assembly paste → Spare parts catalogue

Removal:
   
–  Force piston out of brake calliper housing using compressed air.
  Note
Place a piece of wood in the cavity so that the piston does not get damaged.

–  Lever out the seal using the removal wedge -3409-.
  Note
When removing protect the cylinder from damage.
Installation
–  The piston and join ring surfaces can only be cleaned using alcohol and immediately dried.
–  Before fitting the piston and seal ring, apply a thin coating of assembly paste → Parts catalogue

–  Insert inner seal in groove in brake calliper housing with removal wedge 3409.

–  Insert protective cap with special tools -1- and -2- under pressure.

2 -  Piston resetting appliance -T10145-
Use jaw protectors.
  A47-0202
–  Push protective cap onto brake calliper housing and press it in so that it is seated flush -arrow-.
–  Do not remove protective cap from brake calliper housing by hand.
–  Before fitting the piston and seal ring, apply a thin coating of assembly paste → Parts catalogue
  A47-0151
–  Lift up piston with standard extension and ratchet attachment as shown in illustration and press lightly onto protective cap.
Keep the piston straight to avoid damaging the seal.
–  Balloon protective cap with compressed air (max. 3 bar) which causes the protective cap to slide beyond brake piston.
Use jaw protectors.
–  Manually press piston into brake calliper housing under pressure
  Note
The outer sealing lip of the protective cap will then locate in the groove on the piston.
