Guided fault finding

Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability between Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 505X-

t	Before carrying out any repairs on the electromechanical steering, the cause of the fault must be determined as accurately as possible using the „Guided fault finding “, the „Vehicle self-diagnosis“ and the „Measurement module“ of the central diagnosis -VAS 505X-

Test requirements

l	The battery voltage must be at least 11.5 V.

l	All the fuses correct, according to the electric wiring diagrams

l	All the fuses in the battery casing correct

l	Check the gearbox earth connections

–	If there is corrosion or defective connections; if necessary repair them.

Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System -VAS 505X-: connecting

–	Remove the cover of the diagnosis connection.

–	With ignition switched off, connect the diagnosis line to the diagnosis terminal.

Select the operating mode

–	Connect the central diagnosis -VAS 505X-.

–	switch ignition on.

–	Press button on the touch display for „Vehicle self-diagnosis“.

Selecting vehicle system:

–	Press button on display for vehicle system to be verified.

The control unit code and identification appear on the screen.

Select diagnostic function

The screen will show all the diagnostic functions available.

–	Select the option for the desired function on the display.

Note

The indication fields of the functions „04- Basic adjustment“ or „08 - Read measurement values block“ are visualized from the top down.

–	Continue self-diagnosis for the vehicle system to be verified with the repair descriptions.
