The illustration shows a left-hand drive vehicle. The installation in right-hand drive vehicles is symmetrically opposite.
The power steering box is removed and installed complete with track rods.
   
1  - Power steering box with track rods
q   removing and fitting → Chapter
q   Repairs → Chapter
q   Different versions available → Parts catalogue
2  - Bolt, 40 Nm + turn 90° further rotation.
q   Always replace.
3  - Bolt, 30 Nm
4  - Steering column
5  - Bulkhead seal
q   Check for splits and chafing
q   Note installation position → Chapter
6  - Strainer
q   Replace after each removal
7  - Seal
q   Replace after each removal
8  - Seal
q   Replace after each removal
9  - Servotronic solenoid valve -N119-
q   removing and fitting → Chapter
q   To check component values connect vehicle diagnosis, measuring and information system - VAS 505X- and select troubleshooting → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
10  - Bolt.
q   3 Nm
q   Always observe correct tightening sequence of bolts → Chapter.
11  - Bolt, 40 Nm + turn 90° further rotation.
q   Always replace.
12  - Hexagonal bolt
q   → Item
13  - Bolt.
14  - Self-locking nut
q   → Item
15 -  Steering rod
16  - Union nut, 47 Nm
17  - Seal
q   Always replace.
18  - Return hose
19  - Return hose connection, 40 Nm
q   Coloured markings must line up
20  - Seal
q   Always replace.
21  - Socket head bolt, 22 Nm
q   Seal bolt → Fig.
22  - Seal
q   Always replace.
23  - Expansion hose
q   Different versions available → Item
24  - Seal
q   Always replace.
25  - Screw cap with one-way valve, 35 Nm
26  - Expansion hose
27  - Track rod
q   removing and fitting → Chapter
28  - Track rod ball joint
q   removing and fitting → Chapter

   
Setting steering to centre position:
Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability between Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
  A48-0002
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-, see equivalence → Anchor
  W00-0427
t  Steering centring bolt -VAS 6224-
Cross section of the steering gear:
1  - Screw plug, 22 Nm
2  - Screw in steering centring bolt -VAS 6224- as far as possible by hand.
3  - Steering rack
4  - Steering box housing
–  Rotate the steering wheel to and fro easily from the central position.
–  Have a second mechanic screw steering centring bolt -VAS 6224- into the steering box until it is felt to engage in the centring hole.
