Track rod joint: Removing and installing
Track rod joint: Removing and installing
Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability between Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Insert tool -V.A.G 1332/12-
  W00-1125
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1332-, see equivalent → Anchor.
Removal:
–  Remove wheel.

–  Unscrew bolt -1-.
–  Unscrew the hexagon nuts -5- and remove the bolt -2-.
  Note
t  Do not attempt to enlarge slots in wheel bearing housing using a chisel or similar.

t  Do not use any chisel or similar tool between the steering rod -1- and the washer -2- of the joint of the track rod to adjust the track rod. That would damage the washer.
t  To separate the track rod from the steering rod, use only a wooden head or rubber hammer to apply pressure or to impact the stud end of the track rod.
–  Press the track rod downwards.

–  Loosen the hexagon nut -3- and unscrew the track rod joint. Hexagon flats -4- on the track rod helps are to hold up.
–  Remove the grease on the track rod joint and in the bore clamping of the wheel bearing housing.
Installation
Installation is carried out in reverse order. Note the following:
–  Screw in the track rod joint up to the stop on the track rod.

–  Tighten counter nut -3- to specified tightening torque. → Item For this purpose us insert tool -V.A.G 1332/12- Counter-hold the hexagon when tightening the track rod -4-.
–  Align the track rod such that the joint is at the assembly position.
–  Insert the track rod up to the stop in the steering rod.

Mount the track rod (only by hand) in the track control link -1-, the washer -2- of the track rod head must not bear the load.

–  Insert bolt -2- and nut -5-and tighten to specified tightening torque → Item
–  Screw in bolt -1- and tighten to specified tightening torque. → Item
–  Mount the wheels and the tighten the wheel bolts → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr. 44
–  Wheel alignment → Chapter
Setting of the running gear must be done with an alignment stand recommended by SEAT.
