Start/stop system
Start/stop system
General description:
The start/stop system is used for reducing fuel consumption by automatically switching off the engine when the vehicle is stationary and automatically starting it when the driver wants the vehicle to move on. The start/stop mode is automatically activated when, after moving on, the vehicle is driven for about 4 seconds at a minimum speed of 3 km/h.
Switch-off conditions of the start / stop function:
t  The start-stop system has been switched off via the start-stop function button.
t  The charge condition of the battery is insufficient to restart the engine (starter voltage prediction).
t  The Defrost function is switched on.
t  The window heater is switched on.
t  The air conditioner system temperature set deviates by more than 8 °C from the actual temperature of the interior.
t  The engine speed is greater than 1,200 rpm.
t  The alternator -C- is defective, i.e. belt broken.
t  The coolant temperature is not in the setpoint range between 25°C - 100°C.
t  Increase the blower level by more than 4 stages.
Fault detection and fault display:
The start/stop system as a function is integrated in the engine control unit -J623- software.
The engine control unit -J623- features self-diagnosis to facilitate fault finding.
To localise faults, refer to chapter entitled „Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system“ and use „Guided fault finding“ function.
