ATF level, gearbox with filler tube: check Check the tool and equipment equivalence table according to the applicability between Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Tray -T20173-, see equivalent → Anchor

t	Oil tester w/aut 099, 01m -VAG 1924-, see equivalent → Anchor

t	Central diagnosis -VAS 5051B- or central diagnosis -VAS 5052-, see equivalent → Anchor

t	Protection glasses

Note

The following process is only valid for gearboxes fitted with filler hose -arrow-.

Test conditions l  The gearbox must not be in emergency operation mode. l  Vehicle must be horizontal. l  Selector lever is in “P”, engine idling. l  The air conditioning and heating are off. l  Diagnosis centre -VAS 5051B- or the central diagnosis -VAS 5052- connected, vehicle self-diagnosis and vehicle system “02 - Gearbox electronics” selected. l  The temperature of the ATF must not be more than 30ºC when beginning the test; if necessary, allow the gearbox to cool down first.   Note t  The ATF temperature is read on the diagnosis centre -VAS 5051B- or the central diagnosis -VAS 5052-. t  The level of ATF will vary with the temperature of the Fluid. t  If the ATF lever is measured at a very low temperature then the topping up will be excessive. t  If the ATF lever is measured at a high temperature then the topping up will be insufficient. t  Both an excessive or an insufficient topping up of ATF will damage the operation of the gearbox. t  For the 001 automatic gearbox, only the ATF supplied as spare must be used. Other oils cause problems or even faults in the gearbox; ATF spare number → Parts catalogue. ATF temperature: read

Indication in Central diagnosis -VAS 5051B- or the central diagnosis -VAS 5052-: –  Briefly press from the menu -1- the diagnosis function“08 - Read measured value block”.

Indication in Central diagnosis -VAS 5051B- or the central diagnosis -VAS 5052-: 1 -  Enter the indication group number “6” –  Enter on the keyboard -2- Group indicator number “6” and confirm by briefly pressing the key Q.

Indication in Central diagnosis -VAS 5051B- or the central diagnosis -VAS 5052-: –  Read the ATF temperature in the indication field -1-. ATF level: check and correct   Note t  The ATF level is tested using the ATF level testing bolt. t  The ATF level is correct if, between ATF temperatures of 35 º and 45 º C (50ºC in hot countries), a small quantity of ATF comes out from the ATF testing bolt hole (due to an increased volume in liquid as a result of the temperature) –  Fill the oil tester w/aut 099, 01m -VAG 1924- with 001 automatic gearbox ATF.   WARNING The ATF filling system must be absolutely clean and the ATF must not be mixed with other ATF oils.

–  Secure the reserve tank of the oil tester w/aut 099, 01m -VAG 1924- in the highest part of the vehicle possible. –  Put the vehicle on a 4-post lift or over a workshop pit, to ensure it is completely horizontal.

–  Remove centre noise insulation -fastening elements 1 ... 3-. –  Fit tray -T20173- beneath gearbox.   WARNING t  When working close to the radiator always maintain a minimum safety distance away from the fan. Failure to do so could result in an accident. t  The fan may start on its own. –  Start the engine and run at idling speed.   WARNING Use protective goggles.

–  If the ATF reaches a temperature of 35ºC then unscrew the ATF level testing bolt -A-.

–  Always replace the seal -arrow- for the ATF level test bolt.

Firstly the ATF in the overflow tube comes out -arrow 2-. If ATF continues to come out of the overflow tube from the ATF level test hole before this reaches a temperature of 40ºC then the level is correct. –  Tighten the ATF level test bolt -arrow 1- with a new seal to a torque of 27 Nm. This is the final operation for testing the ATF level.   Note The ATF level testing bolt must be resealed at the very latest when the ATF is at 45ºC (50ºC in hot countries). If ATF does not continue to come out up to 45ºC then add ATF → Chapter. –  End function “08 - Read measured value block” pressing briefly the key ←. –  Briefly press function “06-End output”. –  Switch ignition off and separate the diagnosis connector.
