Steering wheel airbag: Install
Installation is carried out in reverse order. The following should be taken into account:
  WARNING
t  Observe the safety precautions for working on airbags → Chapter.
t  Before handling airbag units (for example to attach the connector), the person concerned must „discharge static“, for example by briefly grasping hold of door striker plate.
  Note
t  Make sure that electrical connectors are pressed on as far as they will go and engage audibly.
t  Ensure that wiring is not trapped.
–  Attach electrical connector for coil connector to coupling for airbag unit at return ring with slip ring.
–  Position the airbag unit in the steering wheel.
–  Screw in both screws -6- for fixing the airbag unit by approx. 2 rotations.
–  Operate the horn three times to ensure an even gap width.
–  Avoid further contact with the airbag unit.
–  Tighten securing bolts -6-.
–  Press sealing caps into openings in steering wheel.
–  switch ignition on.
  WARNING
The battery must be connected with the ignition switched on. If pyrotechnic components (e.g. airbag or belt tensioner) are inexpertly repaired, this may result in unwanted triggering after connecting the battery. There must not be anyone in the vehicle while you are connecting the battery.
–  Connect the battery with the ignition switched on → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
The following operation must be performed after installing the airbag unit.
–  Finally read-off the error memory of the control unit for the airbag and delete it as errors could have been recorded by separating the plug connection.
