  WARNING
Observe the safety precautions for working on airbags → Chapter.
–  Move steering wheel up and to rear as far as it will go, using full range of steering column adjuster.
–  Switch ignition OFF.
–  Disconnect the battery earth wire → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
–  Prise out the sealing caps -7- on the left and right side on the back of the steering wheel.
–  Unscrew the screws -6- on the left and right side on the back of the steering wheel.
–  Turn steering wheel to centre position (wheels in straight-ahead position).
–  Move airbag unit (driver side) slightly away from steering wheel.
  WARNING
Before handling belt tensioner units (for example to unplug the electrical connection), the person concerned must be „statically discharged“, for example by briefly grasping hold of door striker plate.
–  Disconnect connector -4-.
–  Unplug connector for airbag unit -3-.
–  Set down airbag unit -5- with impact cushion facing upwards.
