Removing

Conditions

  • ● The fuel tank must not be more than 1/2 full

Notes:

  • ◆ Empty the fuel tank if necessary using fuel extraction unit VAS 5190.
  • ◆ Observe safety precautions before starting work.
  • ‒ First check whether a coded radio is fitted. If this is the case obtain the anti-theft coding.
  • ‒ With the ignition switched off disconnect battery earth strap.
  • ‒ Remove cover from fuel delivery unit.

When the cover is removed:

Warning!
Fuel supply lines are under pressure! Before removing from hose connection wrap a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling hose off connection.

  • ‒ Pull 4-pin connector and supply and return pipes off flange.

Note:

Press buttons on hose couplings to do this.

  • ‒ → Remove union nut with spanner 3217.
  • ‒ Pull fuel delivery unit and seal out of opening in the fuel tank.

Note:

If the delivery unit is to be renewed then drain old delivery unit before disposal.

Installing

  • ‒ Installation of the fuel delivery unit is carried out in the reverse order.

Notes:

  • ◆ Do not bend fuel sender when installing.
  • ◆ Insert seal for fuel delivery unit dry into opening of fuel tank.
  • ◆ Moisten seal with fuel only when installing fuel delivery unit.
  • ◆ Ensure fuel hoses are seated securely.
  • ◆ After installing fuel delivery unit, check that the supply, return and vent pipes are still clipped onto fuel tank.

  • ◆ → Note installation position of fuel delivery unit flange:
    The marking on flange must align with marking on fuel tank -arrows-.
